In the winter of 2022, Kensaku Hopf went to Granada, Spain, for a seven-month stay. Each day, camera in hand, he explored the city’s life, drawn to the midday sun that bathed Granada in both light and tranquility. Seeking shade during Siesta, he found locals doing the same, while others were already at home having lunch. During this time, restaurants would close for a two-hour break before the vibrant early evening. Behind closed shutters of the restaurants, preparations were underway. Meanwhile, people would suddenly emerge from their retreats, and the city would fill with life. As siesta ends, the rhythm undeniably changes, with renewed life and a lively atmosphere taking hold – a stark contrast where the quietude of siesta transitioned seamlessly into the lively fiesta.
